This is a particularly beautiful portrait with striking colours. The use of blues, yellows and golds are a symphony of colour echoing the blue in Bella’s piercing blue eyes and dress and her golden hair, chair and the paintings golden frame. The geometry of the painting is very lyrical with flowing lines running down through the hair and dress and many hidden shapes echoed throughout the design. Bella was one of the artists longest and closes relationships. She was painted dozens of times and is regarded as one of his closest model lover and friend. Bella was a warm and affectionate person with a free spirit in the best sense of the word. She loved nature and particularly Dartmoor, horses and travelling in Greece.
